Keepin’ my waffle short and sweet… Hello!
Yikes, what’s taken me so long? An introduction is long overdue, don’t you think? If you’ve wandered into my wee waffle space via the website homepage, you’ll maybe know a little about me already. However, let’s pretend that we’re strangers in the street and take a minute to share a story or two.
My name is Cairistiona, I’m the freelance writer behind the Nae Spraff brand, and I love nothing more than to take part in stories, whether in writing or consuming them in their many forms. Stories are everywhere! It’s not just about the ones that entertain; they are all around us, educating, advertising, and calling on us to get involved. They are so engrained into our daily lives that it’s easy to forget they are even there – consciously, at least, they are always working their magic on our subconscious.
So how do I fit into the storytelling world? In a few ways, actually. I will be re-entering the world of education in October and starting an MA in creative writing. I can’t wait to sink my teeth into Scriptwriting and Poetry again. I’ll share stories of my progress here too, once I settle into studying again.
In my day-to-day, my work involves helping others tell stories, and I love it. So how do I do that, I hear you ask? Well, here’s my nae-spraff-included answer:
I help you write your story in whatever form that may take. You may be setting up your brand, selling products or services online, or working as an influencer. What customers and audiences look for most of all is the human behind the service or product. I remember reading somewhere that people buy people, not products. This is true now more than ever. It’s how we connect.
What I’ve learned about the kind of storytelling we expect from our brands – big and small – is that it needs, for the most part, to be kept short and sweet. Which is where my name and strapline originate. Give ‘Spraff’ a quick search, and you’ll find that it is defined as ‘to speak excessively or pointlessly’, used mainly by us Scots. So, from there, we get to my promise of nae spraff. Instead, you get more words, less waffle. By this, I mean I will choose my words carefully for you. Yes, we need to see a little colour and flare; a bit of humour is good too. But that doesn’t mean you should puff a piece up until the meaning is drowned in pretty adjectives. Pick those accessories carefully and use them to their fullest potential; we need to see how hot your outfit is.
